This is not a model of the aircraft, but a self-adhesive masking set from kabuki tape for a model of the F-4C and F-4D Phantom II in 1:72 scale. With this brand the ADVANCED grade lies between the BASIC and EXPERT levels; it corresponds to a wider extent of masking than BASIC, but does not reach the highest level.
With larger masking sets it pays to plan the procedure before you reach for the airbrush. The sequence that has proved itself is the base treatment of the surface, the color of the interior features, masking, the lighter shade of the camouflage and finally the darker one. A light color under a dark one is covered over more easily than the other way around, so there are fewer layers and the edge stays sharp. Always mask onto paint that has dried through — on a fresh layer the tape imprints the texture and pulls it away when peeled off.
Store the sheet flat, dry and out of direct sunlight; bent kabuki tape is hard to lift off and the adhesive hardens over time. Before you lay a mask on, check that the base is not dusty — a microscopic grain under the tape creates a channel through which the paint will run under. Direct the airbrush at a right angle to the masked edge and never at an angle under it. Spray rather more very thin coats than one generous one; an excessive layer creates a ridge at the edge that is visible once the mask is off. Remove any adhesive residue, should it exceptionally stay behind, with a dry cloth, not with solvent.
The set holds only the masks. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
