An injection-molded plastic kit of the legendary American North American F-51D Mustang fighter from the manufacturer Italeri in 1:72 scale. The designation F-51D is the postwar name for the well-known P-51D fighter after the US Air Force moved to the F (fighter) category. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; for the exact contents of the package, go by the enclosed instructions.
The Mustang is among the most famous fighters of all. The D version with its teardrop canopy and the V-12 Merlin engine stood out for its great range, which allowed it to escort bombers deep over enemy territory. Under the postwar designation F-51D the Mustang served on: it was deployed, for example, in the Korean War, where thanks to its toughness and its load of bombs and rockets it served well as a ground-attack machine.
First finish and spray the cockpit before you close the fuselage up. Mask the teardrop glazing and paint it separately. Glossy bare metal surfaces without camouflage call for a smooth base and metallic paint applied at the end; for the individual panels of the fuselage it pays off to shade different tones of metal. A panel wash will accentuate the engraving, and restrained traces of service will add to the fidelity of the machine.
