Ferdinand in 1:72 scale

A collector model of the German heavy tank destroyer Ferdinand in 1:72 scale. It is a piece for a display case, not something for the drawer of half-built projects: you buy it so that it stands on the shelf among other vehicles of the same scale.

The real subject

The Ferdinand was a German heavy tank destroyer of the Second World War. It came out of necessity: chassis built for an unsuccessful heavy tank design received a tall fixed superstructure at the rear with heavy frontal armor, and into it went a long 88 mm gun. There was no rotating turret, so the whole vehicle had to be turned, but it could hit a target at a range at which it stayed out of reach itself. One oddity was the power transmission: internal combustion engines drove generators and electric motors moved the vehicle. Only a few dozen were built, and they became known for their use in the summer fighting of 1943 on the Eastern Front.
