An injection-molded short-run plastic kit in 1:72 scale from AZ model, a Czech manufacturer from the Prostejov area. The subject is the Italian fighter biplane Fiat CR.32 in the bis version, and the boxing is aimed at machines operated by the Hungarian Air Force. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; short-run technology means fine surface detail, but also a somewhat larger share of hand work than on mass-produced kits.
The Fiat CR.32 was designed by Celestino Rosatelli and entered service in the mid-1930s as one of the most agile biplanes of its day. It was powered by a liquid-cooled Fiat V engine, and its characteristic feature is the truss arrangement of the interplane struts, which gave the airframe its unmistakable look. The bis version had a strengthened machine gun armament supplemented by a pair of 7.7 mm weapons in the wing and was adapted to carry light bombs as well. The nickname Chirri came about in Spain and has stayed with the type ever since. The Hungarian Air Force took machines of this type into service in the second half of the 1930s and used them in combat units and later in training units.
With short-run plastic, reckon on cleaning up the mating surfaces first and dry-fitting the model together several times. A biplane is built from the bottom up: first the fuselage and the lower wing, then the struts carefully aligned and finally the upper wing, ideally in a simple jig made of blocks so that the finished assembly is not twisted. The bracing wires are added only after painting, best of all from thin thread or rigging wire. Paint the cockpit and the pilot's area before the fuselage is closed. Lay the paint on the skin thinly so that the texture stays visible, and apply the decals onto a gloss base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
