Escort carriers and their FM-2 Wildcat in 1:72 scale. Four machines of the composite squadrons VC-13, VC-14 and VC-99 from 1944 and 1945.
Responsibility details are not available.
The FM-2 was a lightened version of the Wildcat, built for the navy by a General Motors division. It received a more powerful Wright radial engine and a taller rudder and was tuned for the short decks of escort carriers, where large Hellcat fighters had no business. It was from these small decks that the composite squadrons flew, and you will find their machines on this sheet in 1:72 scale.
The abbreviation VC marked a composite squadron, that is a mixed unit of fighters and torpedo aircraft on one deck. The pair of machines D9 and D6 come from the same ship and the same month, so they can be built side by side as a pair from one deck watch.
The Wildcat has prominent rivets and a number of small covers on the fuselage, on which a decal wrinkles easily. We recommend applying them over small areas, drawing the excess water off and settling the artwork with a softener. White numerals on a dark blue surface need unbroken printing, so handle the sheet with flat-jawed tweezers. The coloring of 1945 differs from the earlier ones in shade and in the extent of the light areas on the underside of the fuselage, so compare the drawings with the paints you have at home, so that you do not need to buy anything extra. The package consists of the printed sheet and a sheet with drawings of the colors.
