He 219 V-8 DH+PX with a four-blade propeller — decals 1:72 (OWL)

A decal sheet in 1:72 scale from the maker OWL. It relates to one trials Heinkel He 219 machine designated DH+PX, which according to the name of the sheet was tested with four-blade propellers. The package contains only a printed sheet — no plastic, resin or photo-etched parts.

What the sheet is for

Trials machines tend to have markings that are not to be found in ordinary kits, and that is exactly the main reason to reach for separate decals. We point out, though, that the sheet deals only with the markings — the four-blade propeller is a feature of the real subject, not the contents of the package, so the corresponding parts have to be obtained elsewhere. The number of variants and the extent of the technical lettering are described by the illustration of the sheet and the enclosed diagram.

Application tips — working in a small scale

In 1:72 the decals are markedly smaller and behave differently from those in 1:48 or 1:32. Cut them out of the sheet one at a time, close to the printing, and never in groups — as soon as you have two elements in the water at once, one of them gets lost or sticks to the other. Work over a light surface on which you can see the small transparent film. Check the position of the marking against the engraved lines on the model before you draw the water off; in a small scale the tolerance for shifting is minimal and an error of a millimeter is visible on a finished model. It also pays to have a magnifier or good lighting to hand.
