An injection-molded plastic model of the American battleship USS Iowa (BB-61) as she was in 1984, in 1:700 scale from the brand Trumpeter. According to the parts supplied, the hull can be built either as a full hull with a stand or in the waterline version. The model captures the ship after the modernization of the 1980s with the missile systems added. The exact number of parts and of the marking schemes is given by the instruction sheet in the package.
Iowa was the lead ship of the class of the same name of American fast battleships with a main caliber of 406 mm. She served first in the Second World War, after which she was decommissioned and reactivated several times. On her reactivation in the 1980s she received launch canisters for Tomahawk and Harpoon guided missiles as well as modern electronics, thanks to which she remained in service until the beginning of the 1990s. Her 1984 state thus combines the classic gun armament with modern missiles.
Decide in advance between the full hull and the waterline version — the waterline stands out on a water base, the full hull on the stand supplied. Glue the small parts of the superstructure, the missile canisters and the turrets with a thin modeling cement for plastic. Added realism comes from photo-etched railings and aerials (they are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise). Apply a primer, spray the postwar gray finish in thin coats with an airbrush and accent the decks and the recesses with dark washes.
