A paper template for masking while painting a model of the Soviet Lavochkin La-5 fighter aircraft in 1:72 scale. It is intended for the kit of the Clear Prop brand.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Lavochkin La-5 was a single-seat Soviet fighter aircraft of the Second World War. It came about by rebuilding the older LaGG-3 type, on which an air-cooled radial replaced the liquid-cooled engine. The airframe stayed predominantly wooden, which gave the machines their characteristically full, rounded fuselage shape. The La-5 was among the most numerous Soviet fighters of the second half of the war.
The template serves to keep selected places on a model free of paint while spraying. The modeler lays it on the part before the paint is applied, covers the area they do not want hit, and takes it off once the paint has dried. The result is a sharp transition that cannot be achieved with a brush or freehand. The template is made in paper; the extent of the coverage and the recommended way of fixing it are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The surface of the model has to be clean, degreased and dry before the template is laid on, otherwise the paint will run underneath. Spray in thin coats and preferably from a greater distance, so that the paint does not get under the edge. Take the template off while the paint is only touch-dry, not after it has fully cured, when a coat underneath often comes away from the edge with it.
A masking template is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
