This set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard holds photo-etched metal parts intended for working up the external sections of a model of the stretched Lockheed C-130J-30 Hercules transport aircraft in 1:72 scale. The focus on the exterior is given in the name, so the set deals with what is visible on the finished model from outside, as against the interior sets of the same range. It is not a kit but an accessory to a model that you obtain separately.
The C-130J is the newest generation of the four-engine turboprop Hercules transport. It is told from the older versions mainly by its six-blade propellers with composite blades and its modern crew cabin. The J-30 designation belongs to the stretched variant, whose fuselage is longer than that of the basic J, so it takes more cargo. The aircraft is intended for tactical transport with the ability to operate from unpaved surfaces. As a model in 1:72 scale it is a large piece with a long wing and a great many small external features.
Cut the parts off with a scalpel on a hard surface, not with cutters. Make the folds on a bender or between two razor blades. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin — any excess on the large area of the fuselage shows and is hard to remove. Sand the seating of a photo-etched part in the plastic down carefully, so that the piece does not stand above the surrounding panel. Degrease the metal and go over it with a primer. On a large transport aircraft it pays to paint in sections and to fit photo-etched parts with fine structure at the end, so that they are not bent during handling.
The set is an accessory to a kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before you buy, check the match with the model you are building.
