Luftwaffe Balkenkreuze Mid — Part II 1:72 is a set of self-adhesive masking stencils for spraying German national crosses in the mid pattern. The second part of the series, an accessory for painting a model.

Cut self-adhesive masks from the Czech manufacturer Armycast for aircraft models in 1:72 scale. The set is intended for spraying the German bar cross in the mid pattern and is the second part of this section of the series. It is neither a model nor decals — the masks are applied to finished paintwork, the insignia is sprayed in paint over them and the stencils are taken off. The resulting cross is part of the paintwork, so it has no glossy edge and no carrier film.
The Balkenkreuz went through several changes during the war. While the early pattern had pronounced broad light areas, the later variants narrowed them, and at the end of the war even heavily simplified forms appeared. The mid pattern stands between these extremes and is typical of a large part of wartime production. Since the particular dimensions and proportions of the insignia differed by airframe manufacturer and by unit, we recommend comparing the form of the cross with a photograph or a profile of the machine you are building.
The straight edges of the cross are unforgiving — paint that has run under shows at first glance. A method that works: let the paintwork cure fully, degrease the area, press the mask down and seal the edge beforehand with a thin coat of clear varnish in the color of the base. That closes any gaps. Only then spray the color of the insignia itself, in several thin coats straight down from above. Take the mask off with tweezers at a sharp angle while the paint has not fully cured. On crosses placed across a panel line it helps to go over the edge of the mask again with a rounded tool.
The package holds masks only. The model, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
