The extended grade of the New Ware mask set for the Voodoo in 1:72 scale. The manufacturer supplies three grades for this type, differing in the extent of the coverage, and ADVANCED lies between the basic and the highest one. The package holds a self-adhesive film with pre-cut shapes, cut for a particular kit.
The extent of the set decides how much work by hand is left to the modeler. The basic grade covers the main glazing, while the higher grades add further surfaces that are normally masked by hand and take up the most time. It pays off above all where the masked surface is repeated on both sides of the model and any asymmetry would show. The particular contents of a grade are always stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
The key to a crisp edge is not the mask but the way the paint is applied. Hold the nozzle square to the masked edge and spray in two or three very thin coats, letting each one set. A heavy wet coat draws itself up at the edge of the film and leaves a step once it is removed. Work the airbrush from the mask outwards, not in under its edge. With paints that have a coarser pigment, keep the pressure a little lower, or the pigment will build up exactly on the edge.
The package holds only the masking film. Paints, glue and a kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
