Mask F-16N Fighting Falcon BASIC 1:72 is a basic set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks from New Ware, cut for the Hasegawa kit. The smallest version of the masking line.

A basic masking set for a model of the single-seat F-16N in 1:72 scale. The carrier sheet holds self-adhesive shapes cut in advance for the particular Hasegawa kit, so there is no measuring and no cutting. It is not a kit and not a part of a model, but an accessory used during painting. The BASIC grade states the coverage of the package: it is the smallest version of the line, above which stand the extended ADVANCED grade and the widest EXPERT.
The F-16 has a one-piece frameless canopy that runs from the nose back past the pilot. That is exactly why masking is tricky on it: there is a frame in only a few places, but it is long and has to be the same thickness along its whole length, or any asymmetry catches the eye at once. Added to that is the characteristic dark anti-glare panel in front of the cockpit, which is also sprayed through a mask. A cut film handles both with no preparation by hand.
Once the canopy is off the sprue, wash it in lukewarm soapy water, rinse it and let it dry thoroughly: on a greasy surface a mask lifts. Press the film down all the way round with a toothpick once it is in place. Spray thinly and let each coat dry; a heavy wet coat creeps under the edge. Lift the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, drawing it back at an angle over itself. Store the rest of the sheet flat and out of direct sun.
The package contains masks only. The kit and paints are not included, unless stated otherwise.
