The top level of the mask set for a model of the single-seat F-16N in 1:72 scale. EXPERT is not a label of difficulty but of scope: out of the trio BASIC, ADVANCED and EXPERT it is the most extensive package. The pre-cut self-adhesive shapes are tailored to one specific Hasegawa kit. It is not a kit or a set of model parts, but an accessory that is used during painting and removed once the paint is on.
The main benefit of the widest level is the preparation you save. Every shape that is already cut on the sheet is a shape you do not have to draw on film with a pencil and cut with a scalpel along a ruler. On a model in 1:72 scale that is not a question of convenience but of the result: a hand-cut edge tends to be irregular and on a small area that shows at once. The set also brings repeatability; a second model built a year from now will have its edges in the same place and just as sharp.
Before the masks go on, the model must be dry, degreased and with the previous coat hardened. The film is pressed down all the way around, the paint is applied in thin coats and the mask comes off shortly after drying, slowly and folded back over itself. When the job is done, the carrier sheet is left with the offcuts you did not use: keep it flat in a folder, away from heat and direct light. The film dries out over time, but within a few months the remainder is usually still usable for small masking jobs on another model.
The package holds only the masking templates. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
