Pre-cut self-adhesive masks for a model in 1:72 scale, cut to the shape of the parts of one specific kit, the ICM 72173. The word ADVANCED in the name is not marketing but a place in the manufacturer's scale of scope: the basic level deals with the main masking job, while ADVANCED is the extended version with a higher number of masks. The difference shows in how much hand work the set saves you. If you want to take the model further than the glazing alone, reach for this level.

The real subject

The MiG-25RB is the reconnaissance-bomber standard of the twin-engine supersonic MiG-25, designed for great altitude and high speed. The aircraft has two vertical tail surfaces, side air intakes and a massive fuselage. In 1:72 scale the cockpit glazing works out fairly small and its frames are among the details that decide the overall impression most, since an uneven sprayed edge shows on the finished model at once.

Working with the mask

Lift the masks off the sheet with tweezers, ideally fine-tipped ones, and lay them on a degreased surface. Press the edges down with a cotton swab or a wooden stick so that no paint runs underneath. First spray a thin covering coat in the interior shade or in primer, and only then the top shade; any bleed then shows only on the first coat. Remove the mask shortly after drying and pull it back at a shallow angle. Put any unused remainder of the sheet back in its original wrapping, which keeps the dust off and preserves the tack.
