1:72 McDonnell F4J Phantoms RAF

Kits-World 1:72 McDonnell F-4J Phantom, the Royal Air Force

A set of wet decals in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Kits-World, focused on F-4J Phantom machines in the service of the Royal Air Force. There are no plastic or photo-etched parts in the package; the decals are transferred onto a model that you already have built, painted and sealed with gloss clear. Compare the particular content of the sheet, the number of schemes and the serial numbers of the individual machines with the illustration of the sheet.

The real subject

The F-4 Phantom II is a twin-engine two-seat jet fighter aircraft. The F-4J version arose originally for the US Navy; a group of these machines was later operated by the Royal Air Force as well, where it was given its own British designation and differed in details of the equipment. British Phantoms carried different national insignia and a gray scheme compared with the American machines, which is precisely the reason why separate decal sets are made for them.

Application tips

• The base under the decals has to be glossy - on matte clear, silvering appears under the carrier film.
• Cut the decal as close to the artwork as possible, so that a minimum of transparent edge is left.
• Soak it briefly, let it rest and only then slide the film into place; adjust the position with a wet brush.
• Apply softener on curved surfaces and engraving, not on flat panels, where it is unnecessary.
• Seal the finished markings with matte or satin clear according to the surface of the model.
