This is a decal set in 1:48 scale from the brand Model Maker, intended for a model of the F-16 in the colors of the Belgian Air Force in the anniversary scheme for the 75th anniversary. It is not a kit or a resin part: the set serves to mark a model you already have built and painted. Neither the exact scope of the sheet nor the number of marking options offered follows from the name, so when planning a build it is wise to count on obtaining the paints and the varnish separately.
Ceremonial finishes differ from ordinary service ones in that the artwork runs across large areas of the airframe and does not respect panel boundaries. A decal is therefore often laid across engraved lines, across the transition from fuselage to fin or over the curve of the nose. It is exactly on such elements that it is decided whether the model will read as sprayed, or whether silvered edges of carrier film will show through under the decal.
The basis is a smooth glossy surface - matte paint has a microscopically broken surface, under which air is held and that silvered haze arises. Cut the decal out as closely to the printing as possible, let it only release from its backing in warm water and move it onto the model together with the paper. Adjust the position with a brush, then blot the water away with a soft towel. On large elements use a softener in two lighter doses instead of one strong one, and do not move the decal while it is drying. Once completely dry, spray the whole model with a matte or satin varnish, which blends the edges of the film with the surface.
The decals are supplied on their own. The kit, the paints, the gloss varnish and the softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
