A detail accessory in 1:72 scale from LP Models. A warning right at the start: it is not a model of an aircraft, but a separate ground accessory — the access ladder the crew climbs to get into the cockpit of a parked machine. Reckon on a casting that has to be separated from its casting blocks, cleaned and painted. The accessory is intended for a model of the MiG-25 fighter in the same scale and does not include the aircraft itself.
Ground equipment is the simplest way to give a model standing on its own some context. A ladder leaning against the side of the fuselage shows at once how high above the ground the cockpit is, and the scene stops looking static. It is also a rewarding carrier for further elements: an open canopy, a technician or a pilot on the platform and other small touches that turn a model into a scene belong with a ladder. The ladder is also used on its own on a base with the model, where it fills what would otherwise be empty space beside the machine.
First wash the castings in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent, so that no release agent is left on the surface — otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc rather than breaking them; when sanding, protect your airways and work wet. Glue the parts with cyanoacrylate; ordinary cement for plastic does not work on resin. Begin painting with a primer, because paint bonds poorly straight onto a smooth casting. Ladders tend to be scuffed in service, so add chipping on the rungs and a fine wash into the frame over the base shade.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the model of the aircraft is not included in the package. Glue, paints and other accessories are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
