A set of pre-cut masking templates in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer New Ware. It is neither an aircraft model nor a kit but an accessory for painting: the masks are applied to the areas that are to stay clean after spraying, above all to the cockpit glazing and the frames of the canopy. The templates are cut from Japanese kabuki paper, that is, from thin washi paper with a gentle adhesive. The paper is pliable, follows curved shapes willingly and leaves no adhesive residue when removed, unlike improvised masking with ordinary tape.
The levels of the New Ware sets are marked as BASIC, ADVANCED and EXPERT and differ in the extent of the areas masked. EXPERT is the most comprehensive of them.
The MiG-25 was a twin-engine high-speed aircraft designed for flight at high altitude and high speed. It is marked by large rectangular air intakes, twin vertical tails and rugged welded construction with a high proportion of steel. The PU version is a two-seat trainer conversion in which a second station for the instructor is placed ahead of the original cockpit, so it has an unmistakably stepped forward fuselage. It is precisely the shape of the glazing that makes a masking set a useful aid on this version.
Degrease the surface before applying and let it dry thoroughly. Lift the masks off the backing with tweezers or a pointed knife, seat them and press the edge down carefully with a toothpick, so that paint does not creep under it. Spray several thin coats rather than one heavy one. Remove the mask shortly after the paint has dried, not after several weeks, when the adhesive holds more firmly. Sort the remaining frames and small pieces out beforehand; they are easily lost.
This is an accessory for painting, not a kit. Paints, glue and the model are not included in the package. Before buying, check that the set matches the kit you want to use it on.
