About product

MS 500/502 Criquet 1:72 - a Brengun photo-etched set

A set of photo-etched metal parts in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Brengun. It is not an aircraft kit, but an accessory intended for a model of the Morane-Saulnier MS 500/502 Criquet liaison and observation aircraft that you have already bought. The target kit is given directly in the name of this item. Photo-etched parts are made from thin sheet by etching, so they can capture thicknesses and shapes that cannot be cast in injection-molded plastic - typically instrument panels, harnesses, grilles and small sheet metal reinforcements. The contents of the sheet and the number of parts are given on the packaging.

The real subject

The Morane-Saulnier MS 500 Criquet was a French liaison, observation and courier aircraft derived from the design of the German Fieseler Fi 156 Storch, whose production continued in France after the Second World War. The versions differed above all in their powerplant: the MS 500 took over the engine of the original subject, while the MS 502 received a radial engine of domestic manufacture, which is the most conspicuous difference on a model. The machine was notable for its extremely short takeoff and landing, slow flight and excellent visibility from the glazed cabin. The French Air Force used it for long years after the war in the liaison and observation role.

Building and painting tips

Cut the etched parts off the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with nippers. Make the bends over a metal ruler or in a bending tool; etched sheet can be bent only once, and repeated straightening tires it and the part cracks. They are attached with cyanoacrylate glue in a small amount applied with a pin - cyanoacrylate holds well on metal and does not flood the engraving. Degrease the metal before painting and use primer, otherwise the paint will chip during handling. It pays to paint the harnesses and instrument panels while they are still on the fret and to cut them off only at the end.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the MS 500/502 Criquet model in 1:72 scale
  • Modelers who want fine detail in the interior and on small sheet metal parts
  • Those interested in the postwar French Air Force and in derivatives of the Fi 156
  • More experienced modelers used to working with etched parts and cyanoacrylate glue

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is a set of photo-etched metal parts with which you improve a kit in 1:72 scale that you have already bought.

The target kit is given directly in the name of the product. On other models of the same type the parts need not fit without adjustment.

Cyanoacrylate glue in a small amount. Cement for plastic does not hold on metal; two-part epoxy glue suits only large areas.

Yes. Degrease it and spray primer on, otherwise the paint will chip during assembly.
