A self-adhesive masking set from SX-Art for the model of the Polish twin-engine PZL 37 Los bomber in 1:72 scale. It is neither a kit nor an accessory part but a sheet of pre-cut masks that are stuck onto finished surfaces before spraying and taken off once the paint has dried. The result is a sharp edge with no paint seeping through and no touching up with a brush afterwards. The masks are cut for the IBG kit.
For its size the Los is a heavily glazed machine: the navigator's glazed nose, the pilot's cockpit and gun positions both on the spine and in the ventral gondola. The framing is therefore the main part of the work, and in 1:72 scale it is especially fine. The second thing that catches the eye on this subject is the national insignia, because the Polish chequerboard is a sharp geometric device of four fields. Spraying it through a mask looks noticeably better than a decal laid over riveting, but whether the marking is part of this sheet is not stated here. Check in the same way whether the set also deals with the main landing gear wheels.
The base has to be smooth, degreased and dry. Lift the mask off with a scalpel, lay it down dry and press it all the way round so that no air is left under the edge. Lay the paint on with an airbrush in thin coats at a right angle to the edge of the mask. With multi-color camouflage it pays to work from the lighter shade to the darker one and to take the mask off as soon as possible after the last coat, while the varnish is fresh.
