A set of two turned metal barrels for lMG 08/15 aircraft machine guns in 1:72 scale from Aber refines the armament of models of German First World War aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory for builders of First World War aircraft, not an aircraft kit. According to the name it contains two turned metal barrels for lMG 08/15 machine guns, that is for the typical pair of synchronized weapons above the engine. In 1:72 scale a plastic barrel is necessarily thicker and blunter, while a metal part allows a thinner outline and a suggested muzzle.
The lMG 08/15 was a lightened version of the German 7.92 mm machine gun, adapted for mounting in aircraft. The weapon was placed ahead of the pilot on the upper fuselage and fired through the propeller disc thanks to a synchronizing mechanism. On most German fighters from the end of the war it was installed as a pair, and that is the arrangement the contents of this set match.
The parts in this scale are tiny, so work over a surface with a raised rim and use tweezers with a fine point. Cut the original plastic barrels off with a sharp scalpel and carefully drill the seat out with a micro drill to the diameter of the metal part. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied in the smallest possible amount, ideally with a toothpick. The barrels are usually painted in a dark steel shade with a slight sheen, and the cooling jacket more matte, so that the two parts separate visually.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
