The Type 74 is a Japanese main battle tank that from the 1970s formed the backbone of the armored units of the Ground Self-Defense Force. It carries a 105 mm gun in a turret with markedly sloped walls, and its most striking feature is its hydropneumatic suspension: with it the crew can change the ground clearance and tilt the hull forward, backward and sideways. The tank can thus lower its nose and fire from behind an embankment, or on the contrary raise the barrel higher than the mounting of the gun alone would allow, which proved a substantial advantage in broken Japanese terrain.
The kit is in 1:72 scale, that is the size in which a whole column can be built in a small space. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the contents of the package and the order of assembly are shown in the manufacturer's instructions.
In 1:72 scale the cleanliness of the seams matters more than the number of parts, so sand the surfaces back after gluing and fill the joints. Paint the vehicle in several thin coats, otherwise a heavy coat of paint will swallow the fine surface definition. Then bring the contrast back with a dark wash into the recesses and a dry brush along the edges; a final layer of dust on the running gear will set the model into its terrain.
A kit is supplied. Paints, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
