A masking set in 1:72 scale from Armycast. The marking is not applied but sprayed: the cut film is positioned on finished paintwork, the star is laid down in paint over it and the mask is taken off. The finished insignia is part of the paintwork, so neither the edge of a carrier film nor a difference in gloss is noticeable on the model. The item is an accessory for aircraft models; the package holds neither the model itself nor paints nor varnish.
The set belongs to the range of Kremlin stars that the manufacturer keeps separate from the ordinary red stars, and it adds a double edging — a white outline plus a red line. The late variant is the last step in the trio in which the early, mid and late patterns stand side by side. The division is a convention of the manufacturer; the particular form of the insignia differed between individual machines, so compare the shape and the size with a photograph or a color profile of the subject before building.
Let the base coat cure and degrease the area — on fresh paint the mask will peel the finish off as it is removed. Press the film down all the way around, ideally with a toothpick, so that the surface is not scratched. A double edging is sprayed layer by layer: the lighter shade, drying, masking over, the darker shade. Thin the paint and lay it on at right angles in thin passes; a sharp edge comes from several light coats, not from one rich one. Take the film off shortly after it has dried, with tweezers at a sharp angle, and at the end cover the model with a matte varnish so that the marking blends with the paintwork.
This is a masking accessory, not a model. Paints, glue and a kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
