A set of cut masking stencils in 1:72 scale from Armycast. It serves for spraying aircraft markings straight onto a model: the film is applied to finished paintwork, the star is sprayed in paint over it and the mask is taken off. Against a decal, the carrier film and the risk of silvering on a matte varnish both disappear. It is an accessory for aircraft models; the model itself is not in the package.
The Kremlin star is a separate range from the manufacturer, distinct from the ordinary red star — the drawing differs, so the two sets are not interchangeable and the one that matches your subject has to be chosen. The manufacturer gives the edging as white, or yellowish, because the shade varied according to the production batch and the state of the paintwork. The qualifier for the early period is the division used by the manufacturer; compare the shape and the size with the documentation for the particular machine before applying it.
The base must be smooth and completely cured — on fresh or grainy paint the edge of the mask lifts and the paint creeps under. Press the film down all the way around, ideally with a wooden toothpick, so that the surface is not scratched. Spray with an airbrush, at right angles and in thin coats; thinned paint in several passes holds a sharp edge better than one heavy coat. A two-color marking is done in stages — the light edging first, masked over once it has dried, then the red center sprayed. Take the mask off soon after the paint has dried, not after several days, and unify the surface with a final varnish.
This is a masking accessory, not a model. Paints, glue and a kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
