The Colibri Decals 1:72 SU-152 decal set brings markings for the Soviet heavy self-propelled gun built on the chassis of a heavy tank.
Responsibility details are not available.
A separate sheet of decals in 1:72 scale for modelers building Soviet self-propelled artillery. The package holds only the decals; the model is bought separately. A small scale makes greater demands on decals than 1:35, because even a small error of placement shows on a compact silhouette. The extent of the sheet and the list of machines covered are given by the maker on the box.
The SU-152 came about by combining the chassis of the KV heavy tank with a powerful 152 mm artillery barrel, mounted in a fixed, fully enclosed superstructure with no rotating turret. Aiming was done by turning the whole vehicle in the rough direction and adjusting finely within a limited traverse. The heavy shell could act against fortifications as well as against armored targets, in exchange for a very small ammunition supply and slow loading, because the round was of separate-loading type. Characteristic features are the boxy superstructure with a steeply sloped front and the massive barrel with a muzzle brake.
In 1:72 scale work with a sharp scalpel and a new blade: the edges of the carrier film must be clean, otherwise a visible rim will be left once it has dried. Leave the motif in the water only briefly, keep the surplus water on the model to a minimum and guide the decal into place with the tip of a brush. On the large flat areas of the superstructure silvering shows at once, so it pays to lay down a decent coat of gloss varnish beforehand. Once it has dried and been oversprayed with matte varnish you can suggest a little dust around the markings; on heavy self-propelled guns the side surfaces tended to be heavily caked.
This is an accessory, namely decals. The kit, paints and varnishes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
