1:72 Sukhoi Su-57 Frazor BASIC kabuki masks

Sukhoi Su-57 mask set at the BASIC level (1:72)

The basic set of pre-cut New Ware masking templates for the model of the Russian Sukhoi Su-57 fighter in 1:72 scale. The templates are plotter-cut from fine Japanese kabuki paper, which follows the shape of the part exactly, gives the sprayed area a sharp boundary and lifts off without damaging the surface underneath. The BASIC extent covers the basic areas of the model, the ones that are hardest to mask by hand.

Masking in a small scale

In 1:72 scale the frames of the canopy are thin and extremely hard to follow by hand, and every millimeter of inaccuracy shows on a small model. A pre-cut mask delivers a uniform line width at the first attempt. Su-57 camouflage schemes also work with sharp geometric transitions between colors, so clean masking is useful over the whole surface. Degrease the part before applying, smooth the edges of the template down and spray thin coats.

The real subject

The Sukhoi Su-57 is a Russian twin-engined multirole fifth-generation fighter, listed under the NATO reporting name Felon. The design puts the emphasis on a reduced radar signature: it carries its weapons in internal bays and its surface is made up of faceted panels with sawtooth edges, which carries over into the layout of the color schemes as well.

Who the set is for

• modelers building the Su-57 in 1:72 scale
• builders of small scales, where hand masking runs into its limits
• airbrush users working with geometric camouflage schemes
• beginners and experienced builders alike, with the basic extent of coverage

This is a masking accessory: the aircraft kit is not included in the package.
