Techmod 1:72 Sworl Camouflage is a sheet of decals with a printed rippled camouflage pattern for the covering of First World War aircraft. It is not the markings of a particular machine or a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sheet of waterslide decals in 1:72 on which there is no classic marking but a continuous camouflage pattern. The designation Sworl is used in modeling practice for the irregular rippled to curling pattern that appeared on the covering of some aircraft at the close of the First World War. The decal is applied to the areas of the wings and the fuselage instead of laborious hand painting, which is hard to repeat evenly in this scale. The package holds the decals only; the model and paints are not part of it.
The rippled pattern belongs to the same category of solution as the better-known printed lozenge covering: the aim was to break up the outline of an aircraft with a pattern prepared in advance on the fabric, not with hand-sprayed camouflage. Its use was limited and concerned fairly small batches of machines, which is why a model with this surface stands out in a display case. For a modeler the main value lies in the decal keeping the same density and scale of pattern across the whole area.
First spray the area with the base paint and clear-coat it with a gloss coat. Cut the sheet according to the real dimensions of the parts of the model; ideally trace a template from paper and only then cut the decal out by it. Apply large pieces of film in parts, with plenty of water under the decal so that it can still be moved. Use the softener carefully and only in places where the film has to follow the ribbing or the leading edge. Transitions and seams are masked with a thin layer of paint in the shade of the pattern and with a final matte coat.
The package holds the decals only. The model, glue and paints are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
