This is an accessory for painting a model, not a kit. The set contains cut masking templates that are stuck onto the areas that are to stay free of paint and are lifted off after spraying. At New Ware the EXPERT level means the most comprehensive extent; the lower BASIC and ADVANCED levels cover a smaller part of the model. The trainer version has a different arrangement of the forward fuselage from the combat one, so the masking cannot be taken over from an ordinary Tu-128 set without changes.
The Tupolev Tu-128, known in the West by the code name Fiddler, was a Soviet long-range interceptor and was among the largest fighter aircraft ever to enter service. Its task was the defense of the vast and thinly held areas in the north of the country, where long patrols far from base were expected. The Tu-128UT trainer version was adapted for training crews: in the forward fuselage, where the combat version carried a radar, it gained another cockpit for the instructor, which gave the type an unmistakable stepped silhouette.
Broken-up glazing with a great many short frames is exactly the case where taping by hand does not pay off. Work in sections: stick a group of templates down, check against the light that no bulge has formed anywhere, and only then go on. Before the camouflage is painted, an overspray in the cockpit interior shade is recommended, so that the frames do not look unfinished from inside. Lay the paint on thinly and preferably in two passes; a heavy coat forms a ridge at the edge of the mask which stays visible once it is lifted off.
The templates are cut to the shape of a particular kit; check before buying that they match your model. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the package.
