A photo-etched metal set in 1:72 scale from the Polish maker Aber. It is not a kit of a tank but a detail accessory aimed at the protective plates that ring the turret of the Panzer III medium tank. Metal at a scale thickness does a great deal for the look of the turret: the coarse edge of the plastic part is gone and the plate can be bent to follow the shape of the turret exactly, and to match how battered it was on a particular vehicle.
The turret skirts belonged to the Schürzen protective set that the German forces introduced from 1943. The plates ringed the sides and the rear of the turret and were to stop rounds from anti-tank rifles and shaped-charge ammunition before they reached the armor itself. At the rear there were hinged doors for access to the hatches. The frame with the plates deformed easily in the field, so you will only rarely meet a complete set in photographs.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard mat and never break them out by twisting. Make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool or between two steel rulers. A natural look comes from bending the individual plates slightly, and you can leave one or two out altogether, because they were commonly lost in the field. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue; on the hangers a small drop of two-part epoxy holds better. Degrease the metal before painting and use a base coat intended for metals, and only then acrylic or enamel, followed by a wash and pigments.
This is a detail accessory, not a complete kit of a vehicle. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
