This plastic kit from Amodel in 1:72 scale depicts the Yak-18PS — the aerobatic variant from the wide-ranging family of the Soviet Yak-18 trainer. Amodel has long specialized in less usual subjects that the big manufacturers pass over, and the sporting versions of the Yak-18 are exactly such gems.
The Yakovlev Yak-18 came into being shortly after the Second World War as a basic trainer, and it brought up whole generations of pilots in Soviet flying clubs and military schools. Single-seat aerobatic versions were gradually derived from the two-seat trainer, and with them Soviet pilots took honors at international aerobatic competitions in the 1960s. The PS version belongs precisely to this sporting branch of the family.
Amodel uses short-run technology — clean the parts up carefully before gluing, dry-fit them and count on a little filling of the joints. The reward is a subject that few others will have in their display case. The cockpit comes alive with a wash and a dry brush, and the generally simple color scheme of a sporting machine is within reach of a beginner with an airbrush — a gloss coat under the decals goes without saying.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
