An injection-molded plastic kit of the American twin-jet bomber Martin B-57B from the Revell brand. The model is listed in the unusual 1:80 scale, which comes from the older practice where the size of a kit followed the dimension of the box rather than a uniform ratio. It will therefore not fit entirely exactly into a display case with aircraft in 1:72 scale: it will be noticeably smaller. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The B-57 was the American version of the British English Electric Canberra jet bomber, which the Glenn L. Martin company produced for the US Air Force. The B-57B version differed markedly from the British pattern: it was given a two-seat cockpit with the seats arranged in tandem under an elongated canopy instead of a glazed nose, and a rotary bomb bay door. The machine had a wide straight wing of large area, thanks to which it behaved well at low altitudes, and it served for tactical and reconnaissance duties.
With kits in this unusual scale it is as a rule a matter of rereleases of older molds, so reckon on more prominent parting lines, on raised panel lines and on the joints of the fuselage and the leading edges of the wings wanting filler and sanding over. Try the parts dry first and glue them with thin glue for plastic in shorter runs, so that you keep the seam under control. Glue the clear parts with a glue for canopies, as an ordinary one would fog them. The large smooth areas of the fuselage and the wings forgive little, so sand the surface carefully after filling and spray a primer; only on that will you see where the work is done. On an aircraft with a nose gear it pays to add weight in the nose, so that the model does not sit on its tail.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
