An injection-molded plastic kit of the large Mitsubishi Fuso Aero Star city bus in the MP37 version, in the livery of the Osaka city operator. The model belongs to the Japanese firm Aoshima's range of utility vehicles and is worked out in 1:80 scale. That is considerably less than the usual 1:24, but with a vehicle over ten meters long the finished model comes out at a reasonable length and can be worked on even at a smaller bench.
The Aero Star is a range of large intercity and city buses from the Japanese brand Mitsubishi Fuso. The body is self-supporting, with flat sides, large window areas and a pair of doors for boarding and getting off. The MP37 version is among the newer standards of the range, with a low floor in the front part of the vehicle. Aero Star buses form the backbone of city transport in Japanese cities, and individual operators run them in their own color schemes.
With a bus, working with the decals is the key thing, because an operator's color scheme is hard to paint in this scale. The base under the decals has to be glossy, otherwise air will be trapped under the film and the edges will go white. Lift the decal out of the water only once it will slide, transfer it onto an area wetted with softener and squeeze the excess water out with a cotton bud from the center toward the edges. Over edges and riveted joints a second application of softener helps, and the decal then pulls down into the engraving. Once dry, spray the whole vehicle with a matte or semi-matte clear coat so that the glossy layer under the decals disappears and the scheme looks sprayed on.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
