The Wars of the Roses is the collective designation for the succession of dynastic struggles fought in England in the fifteenth century between the supporters of the houses of Lancaster and York. Beside close arrays of infantry and heavy armored cavalry, lighter mounted detachments also had a firm place on the battlefield of the time. Light cavalry was not meant for a frontal blow into a close formation. It served for reconnaissance, for keeping communication between detachments, for raids on provisioning and for pursuing a retreating opponent. Its equipment matched that: lighter armor, simpler weapons and a less burdened and so more mobile horse.
This is a set of figures for 1:72 scale. A standing adult figure measures roughly two and a half centimeters at this scale, so the figures match models, buildings and accessories of the same scale in size. It is precisely in 1:72 that larger tableaux build well, because noticeably more figures fit into a small area than in the scales usual for vehicles.
Before painting, wash the figures in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let them dry out completely so that the paint holds. Apply the paint in thin layers. A proven procedure is a base shade, then a darker wash into the folds of the cloth and the harness, and finally a lightening of the edges with a dry brush. Finish the faces and the small metal parts with the finest brush right at the end. Try the parts dry before gluing and choose the glue according to the material of the figures.
A set of figures is supplied. Paints, brushes, glue and a base for the tableau are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
