Labels are a small thing in a diorama that decides the convincingness of the whole. A number on the door of a vehicle, a nameplate on a building, the marking of a railway car or a board on a warehouse give a scene scale and set it in a particular place. Painting such characters with a brush is work at the limit of what is possible, which is why ready-made letters and numbers on a sheet are used, from which you compose the word or the number you need.
The sheet carries a set of letters and numbers 6 mm tall in a uniform standard typeface, that is in an ordinary sans-serif shape without ornament. The characters are composed freely, so from one sheet you can compose different words as well as numbers of several digits. The exact make-up of the set, that is the number of repetitions of the individual letters, is stated by the maker on the packaging.
Before you set to work, check in the manufacturer's instructions whether the characters are applied by soaking or whether this is a self-adhesive guise. The difference is essential: a self-adhesive feature is irreversibly damaged by soaking. Prepare the base smooth and clean, because on a rough and matte surface a character will not seat over its whole area. Lay the characters out dry according to a reference, only then fix them, and at the end go over the finished label with a layer of varnish, so that it does not rub off.
A model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
