3D seatbelt decals, Avro Lancaster B Mk.I, 1:32 scale (Kits-World)

A set of full-color seatbelt decals for the interior of a model of the four-engine bomber Avro Lancaster B Mk.I. They are neither photo-etched nor plastic parts: the printing is printed on a carrier film and complemented by a three-dimensional relief, so the belts come across spatially but are applied in the same way as a decal. The bending and painting of small photo-etched strips is thus done away with.

How a 3D decal is applied

• The base has to be smooth and glossy just as with an ordinary decal, even though the design has a relief.
• Cut the designs out one by one and soak briefly; a thicker layer needs somewhat longer than a thin decal.
• Seat a belt on the seat and shape it over the edges with a soft brush while it is damp.
• Use the softener carefully and drop by drop; it acts on a three-dimensional layer differently from a thin film and an excess can deform it.
• Let it dry thoroughly and only then put the seat into the cockpit.
• Apply a matte varnish only lightly, so that the difference between the glossy and the matte parts of the design is not lost.

Who it is for

For modelers who build in the large scale and want legible detail in an open interior without working with photo-etched metal. The application is easier than with photo-etched parts, but it calls for a steady hand when shaping the damp design over the edges of a seat.

The package contains only decals. A model, paints, varnish and a softener are not included in it.
