About product

What the set offers

Color seat belts in 1:48 scale for British fighters of the First World War. In the open cockpit of a biplane the seat with its belts is the first thing a viewer sees, and the plastic part from the kit usually has the belts only suggested by engraving or a flat raised shape. The elements in this set replace them: the strap has a color and a three-dimensional relief of its own, the fittings and buckles are distinguished, and painting detail a tenth of a millimeter across falls away.

The real subject

The Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service were the two British air arms of the First World War, the land one and the naval one; in April 1918 they merged into a single service, the Royal Air Force. Their fighter biplanes had an open cockpit and the pilot was held in his seat by a simple lap belt, not the multi-point harness of later machines. That is exactly why the detail of the belts is so clearly visible on a model of this period, and why it is worth doing properly.

How to handle the elements

Before applying them, verify in the manufacturer's instructions whether the elements are self-adhesive. The way they are applied differs between the individual ranges, so do not start work until you have checked the procedure. The surface under an element has to be dry, clean and degreased. Transfer the element with tweezers and seat it exactly the first time, because moving it rubs the color off. Press it down with a soft point and bend the strap slightly once it is seated, so that it does not look like a plank. Finish the cockpit before you close the fuselage up.
