1:72 Scale Lockheed P-38F/H Lightning Decal Sheet

Lockheed P-38F/H Lightning Decals 1:72 (Kits-World)

This is a decal sheet, not a kit. The set is intended for plastic models of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning in the F and H versions in 1:72 scale and supplements or replaces the markings supplied in the box with the model. The actual contents of the sheet and the number of schemes offered are given by the manufacturer.

The real subject

The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was an American single-seat twin-engine fighter with its characteristic twin-boom layout and a central nacelle for the pilot and the armament. The P-38F and P-38H versions belonged to the earlier production series and differed from the later J and L series in, among other things, the arrangement of the radiators and the details of the engine nacelles. The aircraft served in the fighter, escort and reconnaissance roles.

How to apply the decals

Decals belong on a smooth gloss base, so give the painted area a coat of gloss varnish first, otherwise there is a risk of silvering, that is tiny air bubbles under the film. Cut the decal out as close as you can, soak it in lukewarm water and move it into place with a soft brush. On contoured areas and in engraved lines a softener will help; once it is on, stop moving the decal and leave it alone to dry. Finally rinse the area free of adhesive residue and give it a coat of matte or semi-matte varnish, so that the edges of the film disappear.

Who the set is for

• For modelers building the P-38 in 1:72 who want markings other than those from the box
• For replacing damaged, cracked or yellowed decals on an older model
• For builders putting together a particular machine from their own references

This is a separate accessory. The model, paints and varnishes are not included in the package. The manufacturer makes several decal sheets for this type, so when choosing, compare the exact designation of the set and the aircraft version.
