A Kits-World base with the surface of an airfield area laid from PAG-14 pre-stressed concrete slabs. These appear at the airfields of the Soviet Union and Russia, of the Warsaw Pact states and of China from the early 1970s right up to the present. It is a printed base for a finished model, not a kit and not a decal.
The motif is a regular grid of slabs with joints, a surface that differs from Western concrete areas at first glance in the size and the layout of the units. The grid is in fact the main benefit of this base: it gives the model its scale, and from the joints a viewer immediately judges the size of the machine. The base is not tied to one particular airfield, so you can use it for a wide group of models from the period given.
A side of 450 mm corresponds in 1:72 scale to roughly 32 meters of real surface, that is exactly as much as the square 675 mm base covers in 1:48. The same section of airfield, a sheet side a third shorter and an area just under half that of the 1:48 version. For a display case that is a fundamental difference: 45 centimeters goes onto an ordinary shelf considerably more easily than nearly seventy. If you are planning a larger scene, bear in mind that all the bases in 1:72 that the manufacturer makes share a height of 450 mm, so they can be laid side by side without a step at the edge.
The printed base alone is supplied. The model and the accessories are obtained separately.
