A large-format printed sheet 675 x 450 mm showing the surface of a dispersal parking area of a British military airfield. It is neither a kit nor a decal: it is a base on which you stand a finished model, so that it rests on a believable surface instead of on the bare board of a table or the glass of a display case.
The frying pan was a common type of Royal Air Force dispersal stand, a circular paved area joined by a short link to the perimeter taxiway. The diameter of 150 feet given corresponds to roughly 46 meters, that is about 63 centimeters in 1:72 scale, which is matched by the width of the sheet. Dispersal parking areas of this shape were part of the standard equipment of British airfields and are therefore usable for a very wide period.
Most often it will serve as a base under a finished model in a display case and as a surface for photography. The model stands on it in the right proportion to its surroundings, so the scale is immediately apparent in a photograph. The scene can be completed further with small things, such as stands, transport trolleys, ground personnel figures or wheeled vehicles, and so create an understandable corner of an airfield without building a full diorama with terrain.
