A photo-etched set of thin sheet metal for a model of the British Sopwith Triplane fighter in 1:32 scale. It adds the fine metal components that injection-molded plastic can only suggest.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Sopwith Triplane is a British single-seat fighter from the First World War. Instead of the usual pair of lifting surfaces it has three narrow surfaces one above the other, which gave it a fast rate of climb and the pilot an unusually good field of view. It was powered by a rotary engine. The structure is largely of wood and fabric, completed with metal fittings, wires and control rods, so it is precisely the small metal components that make a great difference on a model.
Photo-etched parts are made from thin sheet metal whose thinness plastic cannot imitate. In 1:32 scale the aircraft is large enough for the fine components to be examined close up, and that is why photo-etch is so often put to use on machines of this period for cockpit fittings, brackets, loops and other small items. Which parts this particular item holds and where they belong on the model is shown by the manufacturer's instructions. The set is an accessory to a kit, which it does not replace.
The parts are attached to the carrier fret by tiny bridges. Cut them with a sharp blade on a hard surface rather than with pliers, otherwise the thin metal will bend. Make the bends along the marked lines in a bending tool or between the jaws of flat pliers. They are glued with cyanoacrylate in the tiniest amount. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and spray it with a primer intended for metal, otherwise the coat will rub off during handling.
The model, paints, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise. Which kit in 1:32 scale the set is intended for should be checked against the manufacturer's details.
