Name plates in the longer version, intended for a base, a plinth or a display surface under a finished model. Compared with the shorter variant they offer a larger area for text, so they will take the full designation of the real subject including the scale, a description of the tableau or several lines of caption. This is not a display base in the usual sense but an accessory for presenting finished work.

When to reach for the longer variant

A longer name plate makes sense wherever a brief title is not enough. Typically with dioramas, where the situation needs naming and not just the type of hardware, with models with a long type designation and with display cases where the caption has to be legible from a greater distance and the text must therefore not be too cramped. The ratio of the length of the plate to the width of the base matters more than it seems: a name plate that is too long under a small base visually widens the foundation and the model looks smaller than it really is.

Placement and fitting

First lay the caption on the edge of the base dry and judge it from viewing distance. With dioramas that have a strong composition it is usually better to place the name plate on the side from which the tableau is read. The surface has to be flat and degreased. The choice of glue also depends on the material of the name plate, so choose it only according to the actual version and try it first away from the visible surface.
