An interior accessory for models of British aircraft of the First World War in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of an aircraft but a wicker seat on its own with a full back and without a leather pad on the top edge. According to the name the package includes the short as well as the tall variant. The same form is made in the larger scale as well, while this is the forty-eighth version.
The seats of British aircraft were woven from wicker, and their woven structure is exactly what is lost in injected plastic. In 1:48 scale the limitation of the mold is felt even more than with the larger models: the part from the box tends to be a smooth shell with coarse engraving, because a mold would not fill a finer weave. A separately made resin part manages thin walls and a three-dimensional weave even in this scale. And an open cockpit of a model from the First World War is a small scene in which the seat takes up most of the space, so a part swapped once does more for the impression of the model than hours of work elsewhere.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with a detergent so that the paint holds. Separate them from the carrying block with a fine saw, and in this scale above all do not press. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin, because a drop of the usual size would flood the part. The painting: an ocher or straw base, a brown wash in the structure of the weave, which in a small scale does most of the work, and only a very fine dry brush. Exaggerated contrast looks unnatural in 1:48, so rather keep to more restrained transitions. Close with a matte varnish.
This is an accessory, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted, and glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
