A universal masking sheet from the SX-Art brand with precisely cut hexagons of a 4 mm side. It is not a kit, nor a mask cut for one particular model, but a stock of geometric shapes that you lay out to your own design. Of the sizes offered, the 4 mm one is the largest and makes the most pronounced, clearly legible pattern.
The hexagon is the basis of hexagonal so-called digital camouflage, of honeycomb patterns and of imitation netting. It can be used positively, where you stick the cut shape onto a surface and spray over it with a second color, and negatively, where you use the rest of the sheet with the opening and spray only the hexagon itself. A large item suits places where the pattern is meant to be seen right across a display case: on the sides of a hull, on the broad surfaces of wings, on hoods, or on the decoration of a base and a diorama. Putting the shapes into a continuous honeycomb also gives a base for imitating a grille.
A 4 mm side corresponds in reality to roughly 14 cm in 1:35 scale, approximately 19 cm in 1:48 and about 29 cm in 1:72. In 1:72 it is therefore already a very coarse block that makes sense only on large surfaces; in large scales such as 1:16, 1:24 or 1:32, by contrast, it gives a naturally convincing camouflage field. In 1:35 it serves as a pronounced pattern legible from a distance.
With large masks, watch the curved surfaces: on a rounded face a flat shape lifts and paint runs underneath, so press it down from the center toward the edges and cut it if you need to. The base has to be perfectly dry. Spray thinly and in two passes; a heavy layer makes a step at the edge. Take the mask off at an angle to the side while the paint is freshly dry.
Paints, glue and a model are not included in the package.
