The StuG III Ausf. G was a German assault gun on the chassis of a medium tank and a great many were built during the war. The front of the superstructure went through changes in the course of production, so the production stage a vehicle comes from can be judged from the shape of the barrel mantlet. This item matches the version with an angular welded mantlet of the kind earlier Ausf. G examples carried, and with an early type of muzzle brake.
The replacement deals with the mantlet and the barrel of the 7.5 cm gun at once, so the two parts meet in shape without any guesswork. The turned part is true to its axis and smooth, so on the model the barrel keeps a straight form and does not have to be cleaned up at length. For the builder it mainly means certainty that the vehicle will match one particular form and will not carry later features next to earlier ones.
Offer the part up dry first and compare it with the kit part it replaces; the seat in the front of the superstructure may need slight widening or, on the contrary, packing out. Wash and degrease the surfaces before painting and use primer, because paint rubs off a smooth turned surface easily. Fit the barrel at the very end of the build, so that it is not in the way during handling and does not get bent. While painting, leave the muzzle clean and apply any blackening separately, so that the shades do not pick up one another.
