A resin accessory from the Polish maker PANZER ART in 1:35 scale. It is neither a kit of the vehicle nor a complete model, but a separate casting of a winter canvas top that you fit onto a finished model of the Willys light off-road car. The casting carries modeled sag of the canvas, seams, hems and window cutouts, that is soft shapes that transfer to injection molded plastic only with difficulty and in simplified form.
The Willys was a light off-road car with four-wheel drive, built in large batches during the Second World War and used for liaison, reconnaissance and supply duties. The open body offered the crew practically nothing in cold weather, so the vehicles were completed with canvas tops and side panels. The winterized form gives a model a clear seasonal context and suits scenes from autumn and winter.
Wash the casting in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap first, because remains of the mold release agent prevent the paint from adhering. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a cutting disc and never break it, and level the surface with a file. Sand wet and with your airways protected. It is glued with super glue, that is cyanoacrylate, as ordinary plastic cement does not hold on resin. Apply a primer before painting. The canvas looks convincing only when matte: brighten the base shade on the taut faces, bring out the folds with a darker wash and finally unify the transitions with a light dry brush. Dust and a deposit of mud on the lower part of the hem give the canvas a worn look.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a resin casting. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
