About product

Hataka WW2 Italian AFV paint set - a set from the Red Line range

A set of modeling paints aimed at Italian armored machinery from the period of the Second World War. It comes from the Red Line range of the Polish brand Hataka, and that is a piece of information to watch out for: Red Line is a lacquer range. It is thinned with lacquer thinner, not with water. Hataka makes a set with the same focus in its other ranges as well, including the acrylic one - if you work exclusively with water-thinnable paints, reach for the acrylic variant, not for this one.

Use

  • The set serves to mix and apply the camouflage shades of Italian machinery; the paints are thinned with lacquer thinner for modeling lacquers.
  • Stir each bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigments settle to the bottom.
  • Spray thin layers and let the previous layer set between shades, so that the edges of the patches do not run.
  • Lacquers will take masking tape sooner than acrylics, but peel the tape off carefully and rather after a longer curing.
  • Clean both the airbrush and the brushes with lacquer thinner right after the work.

What to check on the packaging

Check the number of bottles in the set, their volume and the particular list of shades on the packaging. Which Italian vehicle and which period the individual shades match is something to settle according to the reference material for the model you are building; the set is tuned to Italian machinery as a whole, not to a single type.

Who the set is for

For modelers who build Italian machinery and work in lacquer technology. The set saves the choosing of individual shades and keeps them within one range, so that they behave the same way toward each other and can be mixed together.

Lacquers are flammable and their vapors irritate the airways and the eyes. Work in a well-ventilated space or in an extraction booth and when spraying use a respirator with a filter for organic vapors.

FAQ

They are not. The Red Line range is a lacquer one and is thinned with lacquer thinner. If you need a water-thinnable variant, look for a set with the same focus in the acrylic Hataka range.

Check both the number and the volume of the bottles on the packaging.

Yes, these are paints of one range with the same chemistry. Do not mix them, however, with acrylics or with paints of another technology.

Yes, an acrylic patina holds well on a cured lacquer and, if need be, can be gently washed off.
