The real subject

The T-34 is one of the most famous tanks of the Second World War and formed the backbone of the Soviet tank force. Its conception combined steeply sloped armor, which increased resistance to hits, with a powerful engine and wide tracks for good mobility in mud and snow. The Model 1943 version with the 76 mm gun represented the mature production form, fielded in great numbers in the fighting on the Eastern Front.

Building and painting tips

First assemble the running gear — the wheels, the return rollers, the idler wheels — and any interior parts. Fit the metal barrel at the end, glue the photo-etched part with cyanoacrylate and the plastic with liquid modeling cement. Apply a primer and spray with an airbrush; bring the Soviet green to life by lightening the upper surfaces and by a hint of fading. Emphasize the cast surface of the turret with a texture, and let a wash run into the details. Mud and dust on the running gear and the tracks are completed with pigments, and the wear with a hint of chipping.
