This detailing set from the manufacturer Wolfpack replaces the plastic exhaust nozzles of both engines on a model of the F-14B or F-14D Tomcat in 1:48 scale. The resin castings offer a thin trailing edge and clean inner surfaces of the duct, which on split plastic parts are reached only by lengthy filling.
The Tomcat's tail with its pair of widely spaced nozzles is conspicuous even from a distance, so mistakes and unfinished work are hard to hide on it. This is not a model of an aircraft, but an accessory for a kit bought separately.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was a two-seat carrier-based fighter aircraft with a variable-geometry wing. Compared with the original A version, the F-14B and F-14D were given more powerful and more reliable General Electric F110 engines, and with them the look of the rear part of the fuselage and of the nozzles themselves changed as well. That is precisely why a set for the B and D versions cannot be exchanged for a set for the A version, on which a different power plant was used.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water, so that the remains of the mold release agent disappear. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, and do not break them. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), as a cement for plastic models has no effect on resin. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. Apply a primer before painting. Metallic shades are built up on nozzles in layers, the trailing edge is darkened and dirtied and the transitions are brought out by a thin wash. It pays to watch that both nozzles look the same, as any difference shows at once on the model.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The set is supplied unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
