1:144 Mk.118 Bombs (two types fuzes) 4x

Mk.118 bombs with two types of fuze in 1:144 scale (Rise144models)

A set of four resin Mk.118 aircraft bombs in 1:144 scale, supplemented by two different forms of fuze. It serves to equip a finished model of a combat aircraft with more faithful underwing armament. The package contains neither the aircraft nor any part of it. At this scale cast resin holds a clean shape of the bomb body as well as the small fins, which in injected plastic would be at the limit of what can be molded.

The real subject

Underwing armament is one of the things that most bring a model of a combat aircraft to life, and at the same time one of the weakest points of boxed kits. Real aircraft bombs are combined in service with various types of fuze according to the effect required, and the choice of fuze shows on a model precisely at the nose of the bomb and in its length. Two forms in one set make it possible to build an aircraft in a configuration matching a particular mission, or simply to vary the look of the stores.

Building and painting tips

Separate the bombs from the casting block with a fine saw or a sharp knife and work over a surface, as small parts like to jump away. Before gluing, wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water. They are bonded with super glue. Limit sanding to the mating surfaces, or you will round off the edges of the fins. Before painting, apply a thin primer. In color, aircraft bombs are most often in a uniform shade with colored stripes, which at 1:144 scale are most easily suggested with a thin brush or a narrow strip of decal. At the end a light wash helps to bring out the transition between the body and the fin.

Who the set is for

• Builders of combat aircraft in 1:144 scale
• Modelers who want to replace the weak armament from the box
• More experienced builders used to working with small resin
• Building a particular configuration from a period photograph

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit of the aircraft, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
