About product

1:10 British Paratrooper Northwest Europe WWII - a resin bust from Young Miniatures

A resin portrait bust in 1:10 scale from Young Miniatures with a British paratrooper in northwest Europe during the Second World War as its subject. The casting is cleaned up, aligned and prepared for paint; the painting then decides the result. The bust is supplied unassembled and unpainted and assumes experience with figures.

The sculpting

The British paratrooper subject is among the most interesting to paint. Characteristic features are the loose outer smock with large folds and a hand-applied camouflage pattern, and with it the straps and buckles. It is precisely the combination of soft cloth with sharp elements of gear that gives the bust depth and forces the modeler to work with several techniques at once.

Preparing the casting and painting

Wash the casting free of mold release agent, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and align the parts dry. Fill and sand the seams, then apply a thin primer in several light coats, so that the seams and the engraving are not lost.

Painting: do the skin and the eyes first. Lay the base of the smock as a lighter tone and paint the camouflage blotches by hand, with irregular strokes and soft edges, because a regular pattern immediately gives away that it is painted. Run the blotches across the folds, not around them, or the pattern will not look like cloth. Set the straps apart by shade as well as by sheen, underlay the metal buckles darkly and bring them out with metallic paint. If the casting includes a beret or a helmet, treat them as a separate color accent and leave them matte. Keep the weathering restrained. Finally pin the bust to a base.

Who the bust is for

  • Figure painters who want to practice hand-painted camouflage
  • Collectors of British subjects of the Second World War
  • Modelers moving from vehicles to portrait busts
  • Exhibitors looking for a piece with strong color

The bust is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue, brushes and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

With a thin brush, irregular strokes and soft edges. Run the blotches across the folds and after painting add light shadows into the folds, so that the pattern follows the shape of the fabric.

Yes, it unifies the sheen after several different paints have been used and it protects the painting. You can then bring glossy areas back deliberately where you want them.

The scale is 1:10; check the exact height in millimeters on the box.
